AYSO 114 Long Beach

Each week our partners at First Touch Training will post a video challenging your players to see how many repetitions they can perform of several soccer skill moves. At game time on Saturdays, your team will rotate among several stations to compete and see how many of that week's moves they can perform. We'll even keep a list of each teams average scores on the Region 114 Leaderboard, even though the focus should be on progress, and not an individual's standings as a reward.

  • Only registered participants and volunteers are allowed beyond the practice boundary. Parents may walk their player up to the screening station, but will not be allowed into the training areas.*
  • All players must check-in at the Field 7 Check-in Area near the Parking Lot off Carson and Woodruff for temperature and symptom check.
  • Everyone is required to wear a face covering and the players may remove them once training begins.

Please observe all COVID-19 safety measures indicated below.

We need parents to staff the screening tents during the week and on Saturday, and also help with running the Challenge Saturday score keeping.

Challenge Videos

First Touch Soccer have produced a series of videos to support our Fall Challenges. For the next 9 weeks, we will be releasing these videos! These will feature the fun challenges every player will be taking on Saturdays. Watch the videos, learn the techniques and practice the challenges, ready to take them on Saturday so you can record the best score possible. We will be recording each player's score so they can see their progress throughout the season!

NOTE: Our final Challenge Saturday is week 9, November 21st.

Be sure to subscribe to First Touch Soccer YouTube channel so you can be instantly notified of new videos.

Week 9 *FINAL WEEK* - Sat 11/21/2020

We have completed the first five week cycle! Beginning in Week 6, we start the cycle over with the first week's skill movements to measure each player's progress! Good luck.

Other important info:

  • All core challenges at Heartwell field 7
  • We need 21 officials each week.
  • 3 every hour on the hour starting at 9am and last challenge to start at 3pm.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to get your score cards and that's about it.
  • No whistle needed but your referee shirt would be nice so the kids can feel as close to normal as possible.
  • If you miss being yelled at and heckled by spectators, we can arrange that!
  • Turn in your scorecard at check in, or email a picture of it to Region 114 Referee Administrator, [email protected]
  • Yes, you can sign-up for the same slot as your kid's team!

Let's make this a great experience for the kiddos. Thank you again for helping to make the most for our kids during this challenging season..

Become a Registered Volunteer

Want to volunteer? Want to be on the field to watch your kid perform the skills? There's still time. Log into your AYSO account, click Volunteer, and then click Find Volunteer Roles. You can choose from:

  • Assistant Coach
  • Referee
  • Challenge Saturday Official

Once you successfully pass the background check, you will be allowed to pick a time slot on the Challenge Saturday volunteer sign-up!

Click here for the Region 114 Leaderboard.

For 8U and below, just like during normal soccer seasons, scores aren't posted.

We hope all players, regardless of skill levels and age, can use Saturday Challenges as an opportunity to practice a growth mindset -- their goal shouldn't be to, "Be The Best," but "To Be My Best." Parents, you can support your players by celebrating their progress rather than the end result; meet them where they are and show them how they can do more than they could before. The reward of hard work is progress and development, a core value of AYSO.

COVID-19 Safety

COVID-19 Safety Measures

Here's how you can help us support COVID-19 Restrictions so we can be allowed to rent park space through the City of Long Beach:

  • Skill exercises will be structured to support a safe 6' distance among players. Please maintain a 6' distance at all public spaces and fields.
  • Adults must wear masks at all times. Players may remove their mask when performing skill exercises.
  • Before going to your assigned field/Coach, all players must check-in at the Region 114 Tent.
  • All players will be given a temperature check before they are allowed to participate. Any player with an elevated temperature above 100.4 will be asked to leave.
  • No sharing food, snacks, water, etc. among players who are not housed together.
  • To reduce congested walkways and parking lots, please leave fields promptly when practices / games / competitions are completed.

This video from First Touch Summer Camps describes the same guidelines to which our 2020 Fall program will adhere:
